Cosby Not A Rapper, Still Making Album
By: RJ Walker Published: Apr. 22, 2008 - New York, NY
For a moment, it seemed as if Bill Cosby was going to join the rapping granny from The Wedding Singer and grandpa from The Boondocks among rapping elderly, but reports of Cosby releasing a rap album have been greatly overstated.
According to Billboard.com, Bill Cosby is set to release a hip hop album called The Cosby Narrative Vol. 1: State of Emergency, but he merely writes and is the executive producer of the album. Cosby leaves the rapping on the album to relative unknowns SupaNova Slom, Jace the Great and Brother Hahz while the album is being produced by longtime Cosby collaborator Bill "Spaceman" Patterson and former Ultramagnetic MC, Ced Gee.
The book is meant to be a companion piece to a book that Cosby wrote with Dr. Alvin Poussaint. According to Cosby representative David Brokaw, "State of Emergency" is described as an "unflinching look at life in the 21st century but without the profanity, misogyny, violence and braggadocio." SoundSlam will make updates pertinent to this story as they are made available.
