Kanye Complains Early: ‘If I Don’t Win Album Of The Year…’
By: SoundSlam Published: Dec. 7, 2005 - New York, NY
Kanye West is loved and hated simultaneously and it is exactly this dichotomy that draws so much attention to the talented hip hop superstar. The Chicagoan has cooked up a recipe of one part brilliance, one part selfishness, two parts outspokenness and has debuted that concoction again recently after a high school concert.
When questioned about potential Grammy Award nominations and victories, West began ranting, stating “If I don’t win ‘Album of the Year’, I’m gonna really have a problem with that. I can never talk myself out of winning, you know why?” Continuing, the long-winded windy city artist stated “Because I put in the work. I don’t care if I jumped up and down right now on the couch like Tom Cruise. I don’t care what I do, I don’t care how much I stunt — you can never take away from the amount of work I put into it. So I don’t wanna hear all of that politically correct stuff.”
Kanye, never leaving his tongue by the wayside, commanded “You put the camera in front of me, I’m gonna tell you like this. I worked hard to get here. I put my love, I put my heart, I put my money into Late Registration. I’m $600,000 in the hole right now on that album and you tell me about being politically incorrect?” All this information is not unprecedented as West threw a tantrum last year following the American Music Awards after not being titled “Best New Artist” over the newfound winner, Gretchen Wilson.
West has assured everyone that he is the face of the Grammys and that cameras better be prepared to capture his reactions, for better or worse. Nonetheless, the Grammy nominations will be announced tomorrow, Thursday, December 8th. The Grammy Awards will take place on Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 in Los Angeles, CA.
