“Everything about his music is unique and different,” is the most common response when fans are asked why they love Goodword’s music. Over the past 10 years Goodword has created a style of hip-hop that can be compared to nothing else. His songs are a collection of stories, off-the-wall comments and meaningful lyrical content – a style which has been abandoned over the last decade of main stream hip-hop.
With the help of producer Steven Radison, Goodword has combined a incomparable hip-hop sound with melodies that you can’t get out of your head. This new sound is illustrated on Goodword’s debut album, “…i got a little story…” released in late September 2005. It’s a collection of 15 songs that define a new style of hip-hop in the San Francisco Bay Area.
When asked what music has inspired his unique sound, Goodword say’s, “To be honest with you, my biggest influences come from Dancehall and Reggae. These styles promote positive lyrics combined with powerful melodies.” His influences are no more evident than in his first single, “I just got word,” which is a song of a friends struggle in life as a young adult. It is a song that will remind everybody of what true hip-hop is all about.
Making waves across the San Francisco Bay Area, Goodword appreciates his fans openness. “I think I am in the right place to promote my music. The Bay Area is filled with people that will give all types of music a shot,” says Goodword of his recent success of sold out shows and unprecedented record sales. “People are searching for something different than what they have heard on the radio for the last few years, I hope I can provide that for them.”
Take a listen to Goodwords debut album and you will understand what everybody is talking about!
