There are thousands of MC’s on the Underground claiming to be the ‘next big thing,’ many come...but few are chosen. They say the ones, who “are” chosen, choose themselves. St.Laz has chosen himself for the job; the ever so difficult job of bringing a classical level of creativity and substance back into this “eclectic” Hip-Hop culture we call the ‘Rap Game.’ Steady on his grind, St.Laz, out of Brownsville Brooklyn known to many as one of the worst “hoods” in NYC, has been on the underground circuit for six years working hard to bring his company “The New Industry” to the forefront.
During his incarceration in an Upstate New York Penitentiary St.Laz began rapping, as “it was used as a tool to express how stressed I was”, he says. It was also during this time he cultivated a group of hard spitting and seriously determined MC’s and christened them “Pottersfield.” Adamant that the music world would over-ride the streets once back on the outside, Pottersfield and St. Laz promised to “take over the game.” Some members forgot their promise, some stuck by their word. But St. Laz, the rest of Pottersfield and newly recruited members continued their forward march.
With five hundred tracks recorded over a three year period, St. Laz made sure his in-house production team was exactly what he desired with names like Venum, StreetLevel, Hotch and Juliano holding down the beats for his crew and working closely with other producers such as Sincere Noble, Te-rah of Universal U.K. and Holy Smokes. St.Laz refused to stop there. He’s acquired beats from, Liveson, Sketchman, 730, The Graduate, Get Large, RGIF, Heatmakerz, Steve Griff, and even Jermaine Dupri, who dubbed him a “Lyrical Genius”.
St. Laz has had his tracks featured on Showtime produced series “Street Time”. From there his buzz grew and it was then, to no surprise that his own solo mixtape “Gone to Far” hosted by DJ. Butta was heavily bootlegged and featured on MTV Mixtape Monday. New Yorkers were becoming familiarized with St. Laz. It was from this that numerous mixtape DJ’s began to respect his hustle and appreciate his lyrical capabilities and he was a common name on many of the city’s hottest tapes.
Realizing we live in a visual society, St.Laz decided to take that route as well; shooting four professionally edited music videos with his team of super directors. His first professionally shot and edited video “In Touch with the booth” was played on BET’s uncut. St.Laz has promoted his videos heavily, getting as many as over 50 shows in the tri-state area and beyond to show them. He possesses a strong persuasive business mentality and nothing is out of his reach when it comes to his own self promotion.
He is definitely ready to blow out the competition. When asked what would stop his mental fuel from encouraging his success St.Laz simply states “Nothing can stop me”. He means that. St.Laz is truly here to elevate the music and bring back the consciousness in the game… definitely the next ill-talent you need to look out for. Just get ready for his takeover because he is well on his way.
