Hello, my name is MC (Till). I fell in love with Hip-hop music when I was five years old. I remember hearing Hip-hop for the first time on the radio. The local college station would play Hip-hop every Thursday night. My brother and I would jump on my mom’s bed while listening to this ‘fresh’ new music. The excitement for this music has never stopped; causing me to forever be attached.
I began memorizing verses from varied legends like Biz Markie to De La Soul and from Ice T to Tupac. I learned rhythmic patterns, began to develop my own lyrical cadence, and wrote my first original song in 7th grade.
Then I bought an old torn up drum set from a neighbor for $25 and taught myself a few drum patterns. I would record a pattern to tape, play it back while rapping to it, and record that. It was raw, dusty, and lyrically unintelligible, but from the soul.
Fast forward a decade and a few years and now I have Pro-Tools, T-Rax mastering, and all this high tech stuff, but the music is still from my soul. My love is not for the polished, crisp, media driven rap music so prevalent in the mainstream today. I am moved and motivated by the raw, irritated, aggressive, in your face and mind type of Hip-hop. And this is the type of music I create.
I have so much fun rapping at conferences, bars, concert venues, weddings (yes, that’s right weddings!), people’s living rooms (home tours), churches, job corps, etc… The stage is certainly my friend. I have been blessed with the opportunity to share the stage with underground greats such as C-Rayz Walz (NY), the Cross Movement (Philly), Grits (Nashville), Iomas Marad (Chicago), my crew Rhyme Rock (Evansville, IN) and Lil’ Mo (?).
My new album, Beautiful Raw, is climbing on underground radio and is getting great grassroots reviews. Beautiful Raw sold over 200 copies within the first two months of its release. It earned a 4.5 rating (out of 5) from News4U (Southern Indiana’s premier entertainment magazine) and continues to gain momentum. Will it gain your ears? I hope so. Take care and be sure to check me out at www.mctill.com.
Peace!
